Symbols and Being Human
Collaboration and human connection are at the heart of the work I do, and this new logo for Noctua Therapy reflects this in its simplicity and beauty. Working with designer Jessica Brousseau at Feast Studio felt like such an aligned choice. I was able to support the skilled work of a local artist and connect to a symbol that captures so much of my motivation as a therapist and the authenticity that I seek to establish in the therapy room.
Jessica spent time getting to know the story behind my practice, the folks I support, and the intention that guides my work. I begin in a similar place as a therapist, by tuning in to where you are at and where you want to go.
The word Noctua is Latin, and means ‘night owl’. It is connected to the latin word for night, which is ‘nox’. For me, an owl flying at night is a many-layered metaphor for our experience as human beings. Often, we find ourselves in the dark, trying to make out the path ahead. It can be a solitary journey, as few others are able to overcome their own fears to be alongside us in dark times.
There is light in the darkness, however. The stars and moon shine down on us, helping us to orient and choose our direction. They are steady in their cycles of movement, and we can count on them changing in some ways but also always being there when we look up. Like the owl, we can connect to our insight and discernment to find our way.
I am grateful to share this with you and to celebrate the creativity, care, and journey that shaped it. If this reflection resonates, I invite you to connect and explore what your own journey toward clarity and self-trust might look like in therapy.
